This publication contains all refrigerants by type in lists (tables), we have compiled a list of freons. Highlighted links lead to a page describing the refrigerant and its characteristics. The tables are divided by type of freons and names. If some refrigerant could not be found, please write in the comments. We will fix the situation.
CFC, Chlorofluorocarbons
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs, CFCs) are also known under the DuPont brand name “Freons”. The molecules of these gases consist of chlorine (Cl), fluorine (F), carbon (C), sometimes bromine (Br) atoms. They have been widely used as refrigerants.
Due to the presence of chlorine in the molecules, CFCs actively react with ozone. In the upper atmosphere, chlorofluorocarbons destroy the ozone layer. Therefore, their use is regulated by the Montreal Protocol. Their use as a refrigerant is minimized.

CFO, Chlorofluoroolefins
Chlorofluoroolefins (CFO, CFO) have been isolated from chlorofluorocarbons relatively recently. These refrigerants are also referred to as fluoroolefins. They are usually used as components or intermediates for the preparation of other substances.

H, haloalkanes
Haloalkanes (haloalkanes, alkyl halides) are rarely used as refrigerants. They have a great potential for destroying the Earth’s ozone layer. They are mainly used as raw materials or intermediate compounds for the production of other substances. The composition of haloalkanes molecules can include atoms:
- Chlorine (Cl);
- Fluorine (F);
- Carbon(C);
- Bromine (Br);
- Hydrogen (H).

HCFC, Hydrochlorofluorocarbons
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC, HCFC) are the most common refrigerants in the late 20th century. They have less impact on global warming and ozone depletion than chlorofluorocarbons. They are classified as transitional ozone depleting substances.
The Montreal Protocol provides for the phase-out of these gases. The complete phase-out of hydrochlorofluorocarbons in different countries comes from 2020, 2025 or 2030. They are being replaced by hydrofluorocarbons and alternative freons.

Hydrofluorochloroolefins (HCFO, HCFO) are used as alternatives for CFC gases. In particular, they are used as substitutes for freon R22, R502, R500 and R12. They have low ozone depletion properties and global warming potential.

HCO, Hydrochloroolefins
Hydrochloroolefins (HCO, HCO) have been developed as an alternative to CFCs and HFCs. They have low global warming and ozone depletion potentials. But it has been widely used. Now they are practically not used, as there are more effective alternatives.

HFC, Hydrofluorocarbons
Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs, HFCs) are refrigerants widely used in air conditioning. They have a low ozone depletion potential. Strongly affect the greenhouse effect (thousands of times stronger than carbon dioxide CO2).
